Daily stress is a normal part of life however when it goes unchecked, it can be truly toxic to our physical and mental health.
We all want our kids to succeed and be happy, however, our kids feel the stress we feel.
Daily microstresses, like a parking ticket, being late for a meeting, losing our keys, can all add up—often without us even realizing it. We then find ourselves making demands on colleagues, snapping at loved ones or drowning our feelings with alcohol, donuts, doom scrolling, avoiding doing the things that matter… you get the picture.
Over time, these microstresses and our reactions to them add up causing real damage to our mental and physical health. The resulting distress is, at the cellular level, known as allostatic overload which presents at the macro level as modern chronic diseases that are mostly preventable with healthy lifestyle choices.
We now know that consciously relaxing our nervous system on a day to day basis, reframing our perspective with gratitude, curiosity and awe, understanding the neurobiology of stress, are life transforming tools that anyone can use.
I completed formal training in Mind-Body Medicine and became board certified in Lifestyle Medicine. These emerging fields study the scientific evidence that show how our emotional and mental states affect the health of our bodies and vice versa. Lifestyle Medicine focuses on real life application of the research behind the six pillars: stress management, sleep, nutritious foods, avoiding toxins, exercising and positive relationships.
I spent the first twenty years of my medical career diagnosing diseases and when I had kids of my own, I dove deep into research to find out how to keep them mentally and physically healthy!
My goal is to share what I know to empower you with all the right tools so that your kids can learn science backed healthy mental and physical skills that they need to succeed in their lives.
